The S&P 500 saw a slight decline on Thursday, but it stayed close to record highs as traders considered additional data suggesting inflation pressures might be abating.
The broad market index fell by 0.2%, while the Nasdaq Composite increased by less than 0.2%.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by 264 points, or 0.7%. Earlier in the day, the S&P 500 saw a 0.4% increase.
May’s producer price index decreased by 0.2% from the previous month, contrary to the 0.1% increase that economists polled by Dow Jones.
The report was released a day after May’s consumer price index increased less than anticipated.
