Stocks surged on Friday following a weaker-than-expected April jobs report, raising optimism that the Federal Reserve might consider cutting interest rates in the near future.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 450.02 points, or 1.18%, closing at 38,675.68. The S&P 500 saw a 1.26% increase, ending the day at 5,127.79 and marking its best performance since February. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite jumped 1.99% to settle at 16,156.33.
These gains rounded out a positive week for the markets, with the Dow and Nasdaq posting gains of 1.14% and 1.43%, respectively, and the S&P 500 rising by 0.55%.
