The S&P 500 climbed modestly on Monday, with Nvidia gains leading tech companies higher and investors anticipating the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate announcement. The broader market index rose only 0.2%, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.3%.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 58 points, or 0.1%. Nvidia shares rose 1% as the stock’s 10-for-1 split went into effect. Meta shares also rose 1%, boosting the S&P 500 technology sector by 0.5%.
The Fed’s latest rate decision and May’s consumer price index, both scheduled for Wednesday, might be crucial tests for markets, especially after Friday’s strong jobs report suggested the central bank may delay cutting rates.
