UBS CEO says AI Pullback Is Healthy, but Risks Ahead

UBS reported a robust second-quarter performance, posting a net profit of $2.8 billion, which was in line with what analysts had predicted. The bank’s pre-tax profits saw a significant increase, rising 64% compared to the same period last year to reach $3.6 billion.

During a recent interview, the CEO emphasized the strong momentum across various parts of the business, especially in investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, and capital markets.

He highlighted the positive activity in leveraged capital markets, debt capital markets, and equities, along with a particularly vibrant IPO market that included notable deals such as SpaceX’s debut.

In addition to these positive developments, UBS announced a new share buyback plan totaling $3 billion, with an initial repurchase of $1 billion planned over the next three months.

Following these announcements, UBS shares gained 2.5% in the morning trading session, reflecting investor confidence in the bank’s ongoing growth and strategic initiatives.
