Wall Street waits for the Fed to Decide on Rates, and the S&P 500 is Flat

Tuesday saw no change in the S&P 500 as investors wait for the latest interest rate announcement from the Federal Reserve.

Little changed on the benchmark, but the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.3%, or 122 points. By 0.7%, the Nasdaq Composite declined.

Traders will be keeping an eye out for information following the two-day policy meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee, which began on Tuesday. Investors are instead left expecting a change in the policy statement that will finish off the meeting, as the fed funds futures market has priced in a 97% probability that the central bank will leave rates steady, according to the CME FedWatch tool.

With the carmaker reporting higher-than-expected results, General Motors’ stock surged by 7%. After releasing good profits per share and current-quarter forecasts, electronics company Sanmina saw a more than 28% increase in value, while cybersecurity stock F5 gained 2% on the strength of a better-than-expected financial report.
