The legendary investor, who will turn 94 in August, donated $5.3 billion worth of Berkshire Hathaway shares to five charities on Friday, August 16.
Of those shares, 9.93 million went to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, while the remaining shares went to the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, which was named in honour of his late first wife, and the three charities run by his children, Howard, Susan, and Peter Buffett.
The company he started heading in 1965, Berkshire, is located in Omaha, and the “Oracle of Omaha” has promised to donate the wealth he amassed there.
Since 2006, Buffett has given yearly contributions to the five nonprofits. Buffett now has 207,963 Berkshire A shares and 2,586 B shares, valued at around $130 billion, following Friday’s gifts.
