The majority of the most well-funded generative artificial intelligence startups in Europe were started by executives who had previously worked for major American technology corporations.
A quarter of the 221 generative AI businesses in Europe and Israel, Amazon, DeepMind, Meta, Google, and Microsoft.
In terms of venture capital raised, that percentage increased to more than a third (38%) for the top 40 generative AI businesses in Europe and Israel, and to 60% for the top 10 generative AI companies.
As those businesses “have been leaning forward in AI the most and… have the capabilities when it comes to compute, when it comes to data, when it comes to money,” Harry Nelis, general partner at Accel, told CNBC that IT giants are logical catalysts for new generative AI enterprises.
