A $1 Billion Capital Raising is Requested by Elon Musk’s AI Business, X.AI

Elon Musk launched the artificial intelligence business X.AI, and it has filed with the SEC to raise up to $1 billion through an equity offering.

As of Nov. 29, the firm has raised around $135 million from four investors. According to the filing, it has a “binding and enforceable agreement” for the purchase of the remaining shares.

According to the company’s website, Musk revealed the AI business in July with the goal of trying to “understand the true nature of the cosmos.” “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” is the source of inspiration for X.AI’s chatbot Grok, which was introduced last month. As per the company’s claims, the chatbot is proficient in real-time internet navigation and made its debut after two months of training.

“It is not appropriate to utilise Grok if you detest humour as it is meant to respond to queries with a hint of wit and a rebellious nature.” In addition, X.AI stated on its website that “it will also answer hot inquiries that are rejected by most other AI systems.”

Remarks were requested, but the company did not answer right away.

Grok puts X.AI squarely in the market against businesses like ChatGPT maker OpenAI, which Musk helped launch before leaving the project in 2018 due to a disagreement with co-founder Sam Altman. It will also face competition from Anthropic’s Claude chatbot and Google’s Bard technology.

According to reports earlier this year, Musk obtained from Nvidia thousands of powerful graphics processing units (GPUs), the kind of CPUs required to construct a sizable language model.
