On Monday, the Biden administration announced the start of a fresh investigation into historical Chinese semiconductors that may be used in everything from automobiles to home appliances and defence weapons.
China “frequently engages in non-market policies and practices, as well as industrial targeting” of the chip industry, enabling Chinese companies “to seriously harm competition and create dangerous supply chain dependencies in foundational semiconductors.”
The White House also stated that the probe, known as Section 301, will examine China’s “acts, policies, and practices on the production of silicon carbide substrates or other wafers used as inputs into semiconductor fabrication.”
