According to a significant new study from Spain’s IE University, the majority of Europeans support government controls on AI to lessen the effects of the technology on job security.
According to the report, 68% of a sample of 3,000 Europeans believe their governments should enact regulations to protect jobs from the rising amount of automation being brought about by AI.
This number is an increase of 18% from the number of respondents who gave the same response to a study of a similar nature published by IE University in 2022. In response to IE University’s study last year, 58% of respondents said they thought AI should be regulated.
“The dread of losing one’s employment is the most prevalent,” Ikhlaq Sidhu, dean of IE University’s School of Science and Technology
The Centre for the Governance of Change at IE University, an organisation dedicated to practical research, published the study to help people better comprehend, anticipate, and manage innovation.
Estonia stands out from the rest of Europe since it is the only nation where this perspective has declined since last year, by 23%. Only 35% of Estonians want their government to place restrictions on AI, according to a recent poll.
But generally speaking, most Europeans support government regulation of AI to reduce the possibility of job losses.
