With the goal of providing users with “quick and timely answers with clear and relevant sources,” OpenAI unveiled the SearchGPT prototype on Thursday.
The technology will eventually be incorporated into ChatGPT, its popular chatbot. It is now undergoing alpha testing with a limited number of users.
Alphabet investors have been worried since ChatGPT’s November 2022 launch that OpenAI, by providing users with new ways to search the internet for information, might overtake Google in the search industry.
By offering users the ability to “search in a more natural, intuitive way” and ask follow-up questions “just like you would in a conversation,” OpenAI is experimenting with achieving precisely that with this prototype.
