Amazon is set to shut down its 21-year-old crowdsourced work platform, Mechanical Turk, with the service ending on September 30, 2026.
The company stated that they regularly review their programs and services and have decided to make this adjustment after an assessment.
Launched in 2005, Mechanical Turk connected a large number of workers with simple digital tasks, such as data labeling, audio or video transcription, and survey responses, often paying only a few cents per task.
The platform was described by Amazon’s founder as “artificial artificial intelligence,” as it delegated tasks that are easy for humans but difficult for computers.
