On Monday, the stock market experienced mixed movements. The S&P 500, a broad measure of the stock market, decreased slightly by 0.1%, and the Nasdaq Composite, which includes many technology and chip companies, fell by 0.2%.
However, the Dow Jones Industrial Average managed to rise by about 184 points, approximately 0.4%, indicating some positive momentum.
A significant factor influencing the market was the performance of semiconductor stocks, which are companies that make computer chips.
These stocks declined overall, with the VanEck Semiconductor ETF dropping over 3%.
Notable companies like AMD and Teradyne saw their stock prices fall by 7% and nearly 6%, respectively. Micron Technology also experienced a 4% drop.
Earlier in the day, chip stocks had gained after Chinese chipmaker CXMT had a very successful initial public offering (IPO) on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
Despite this boost, uncertainty remains regarding Chinese companies and their role in the global market.
Experts explain that increased competition and rapid technological advancements are creating a very competitive environment, making investors cautious about the future prospects of these companies.
