On Monday, the S&P 500 declined by 0.3%, reversing earlier gains driven by a drop in global oil prices.
The Nasdaq Composite fell by 0.6%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose slightly by about 105 points, or approximately 0.2%.
The decline was mainly driven by a broad slump in semiconductor stocks. The VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) dropped over 3%, continuing its downward trend from Friday.
Leading the declines were AMD, which fell by 8%, and Teradyne, down by 6%. Micron Technology also experienced a decline of nearly 6%.
