In order to cap off a successful week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased on Friday as traders evaluated the most recent U.S. jobs report.

About 115 points, or 0.3%, were added to the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The S&P 500 increased by about 0.2%, while the Nasdaq Composite ended about unchanged.

Early in the day, the major averages saw a big increase. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq each gained 0.8% before losing ground, while the Dow briefly traded more than 250 points higher.

S&P 500 and Dow gains for the week were 2% and 1%, respectively. They are on track to make their largest weekly progress since July as a result. The Nasdaq has gained close to 3% so far this week and is on track to have its best one-week performance since July.
