The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose on Tuesday, supported by strong earnings from blue-chip companies and a decline in oil prices.
The Dow gained 659 points, or 1.2%. Sherwin-Williams led the gains with an 8% rise after reporting better-than-expected Q2 results.
Coca-Cola also climbed 5%, boosted by solid earnings and an upgraded full year outlook. The S&P 500 increased by 0.4%.
The Nasdaq Composite edged up 0.1%, driven by a rally in software stocks.
The iShares Expanded Tech Software ETF (IGV) surged nearly 2%, with Microsoft rising 2% and Salesforce gaining 5%.
However, semiconductor stocks continued to underperform, with the VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) dropping over 2% for the fourth consecutive day, as Micron declined about 9% and AMD fell 6%.
