Dow Gains 600 Points on Strong Earnings and Sharp Oil Price Drop

On Tuesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed higher, buoyed by strong earnings from leading blue-chip companies and a continued drop in oil prices.

The Dow increased by 624 points, or 1.2%. Leading the gains, Sherwin-Williams surged 8% after posting better-than-anticipated Q2 results.

Coca-Cola also saw notable gains, rising nearly 5% on solid earnings, revenue beats, and an upgraded full-year outlook. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 edged up by 0.3%.

The Nasdaq Composite remained mostly flat, although a rally in software stocks helped lift the index later in the session. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software ETF (IGV) jumped nearly 2%, with Microsoft climbing nearly 2% and Salesforce soaring 5%.

In contrast, semiconductor stocks continued to lag, with the VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) falling more than 3% for the fourth straight day. Micron dropped approximately 9%, and AMD declined 7%.
