As a shorter trading week in the lead-up to Christmas got underway, European markets saw mixed results on Monday.
With all major bourses and the majority of sectors in negative territory, the pan-European Stoxx 600 index was trading above the flatline in early morning trades.
European markets are scheduled to close early on Christmas Eve and stay closed on Christmas Day, indicating that trading will be somewhat quiet in the lead-up to Christmas.
The week began on a high note for Asia-Pacific markets overnight as investors processed a press conference about the combination of Japanese automakers Nissan and Honda.
On Monday, the automakers announced that they had started merging. At 9:08 a.m. London time, the shares of Renault, a French company that owns a minority holding in Nissan, were down about 0.7%.
