Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg showcased his idea of a virtual reality headset-enabled work and play environment when Facebook rebranded as Meta in October 2021.
With customisable avatars that float, the company soon unveiled Horizon Worlds, a play universe. None of those has gained public traction as the rebranding to Meta nears its third anniversary. Yet using a different channel, the business seems to have established itself in virtual and augmented reality.
A almost ten-year project, Meta is building anticipation for the prototype of a far more sophisticated pair of glasses named Orion, after finding unexpected early success in the smart glasses market through a cooperation with Ray-Ban.
An unprecedented degree of excitement in the metaverse has been sparked by Zuckerberg’s announcement of Orion late last month.
