The U.S. was reclassified as a “sensitive country” by Google’s mapping section on Monday.
This classification is reserved for states with strict governments and border disputes. President Donald Trump announced that his government will rename official maps and federal communications, which prompted the new categorisation for the United States.
The Gulf of Mexico was renamed the “Gulf of America,” while Mount Denali was renamed Mount McKinley.
Google ordered on Monday that the United States no longer be classified as a “non-sensitive” country.
At that point, the business declared that, following an update by the Trump administration to its “official government sources,” it will rename the body of water between the Florida and Yucatan peninsulas as the “Gulf of America” on Google Maps.
