Third-party sellers who choose to ship their own goods rather than paying for Amazon’s fulfilment services will now incur a new fee from the online retailer.
A note written to merchants last week and obtained by CNBC states that as of October 1, participants in Amazon’s Seller Fulfilled Prime programme will be required to pay the corporation a 2% charge on each item sold. Sellers were not previously charged this fee.
“We’re revising our requirements for Seller Fulfilled Prime to guarantee that it delivers customers with a wonderful and consistent Prime experience,” the announcement reads.
Requests for response from Amazon representatives were not immediately answered. Bloomberg was the first to report the information.
