Google says it likely Thwarted Hacker Group’s Attempt to use AI for a ‘Mass Exploitation Event’

Google’s Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG) announced on Monday that they successfully stopped hackers from using artificial intelligence (AI) to plan a large-scale cyberattack.

The hackers wanted to use AI to find a hidden security weakness in software, called a zero-day vulnerability, which is a flaw that the software creators don’t yet know about.

Their goal was to exploit this weakness to break into systems and bypass two-factor authentication, a security feature that adds extra protection.

Google believes that their quick action may have prevented the hackers from carrying out their plan.

They also clarified that their own AI system, called Gemini, was not used in the attack.

This incident shows how hackers are increasingly trying to use AI as a tool in cyberattacks, and it highlights the importance of cybersecurity defenses.
