Musk wants to “Slow Down a Competitor” with his $97.4 Billion Bid for OpenAI, According to Sam Altman

Paris — Elon Musk has made a sizable offer of $97.4 billion to take over OpenAI, but Sam Altman, the company’s CEO, doesn’t appear to be concerned by the offer.

In a Tuesday interview with CNBC, Altman addressed queries over Musk’s plan, which he had earlier dismissed in a post on the social media site X. When asked if he takes Musk’s proposition seriously, Altman said, “Not particularly.”

Though he acknowledged that he cannot be positive of Musk’s intentions, he thinks that Musk may be trying to impede DeepAI’s advancement in order to improve his own competitive position.

This statement was made in Paris during a news conference for the AI Action Summit. Musk is leading a group of financiers attempting to acquire the charity OpenAI.
