Nvidia has invested at least $6.5 billion in photonics technology companies over the past three months, aiming to address key bottlenecks in AI deployment.
Photonics, which uses light to transmit data, offers a more energy efficient alternative to traditional electrical data transfer a critical factor in scaling AI.
Since March, Nvidia has announced $2 billion in investments in companies like Lumentum, Coherent, and Marvell, all developing photonics solutions.
Additionally, the company committed $500 million to Corning for advanced optical connectivity and participated in Ayer Labs’ $500 million Series E funding round.
