Regarding its ad-Supported Subscription Business, Meta is Alleged to have Violated EU Antitrust Laws

With regard to its newly launched ad-supported social networking service, Facebook parent firm Meta was charged on Monday by EU regulators with violating the bloc’s historic antitrust laws.

The ad-supported subscription option was dubbed a “pay or consent” model by the Commission, meaning that consumers must either pay to use Meta’s platforms without ads or provide their approval for their data to be processed for targeted advertising. In Europe last year, the service was unveiled for Facebook and Instagram.
