As investors gambled the Federal Reserve was nearly done raising rates after the central bank this week skipped a rise, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by more than 400 points on Thursday and the S&P 500 reached a new 13-month high.
To close at 34,408.06, the 30-stock Dow gained 428.73 points, or 1.26%. The Nasdaq Composite increased 1.15% to close at 13,782.82, while the S&P 500 increased 1.22% to settle at 4,425.84. In accordance with the pattern on Wall Street in 2023, bond yields were lower but tech stocks continued to drive the market upward.
The S&P 500 and Nasdaq reached their highest intraday levels on Thursday since April 2022 thanks to the advances.
