Stocks edged lower on Thursday as investors kept an eye on Middle East tensions, especially news about a possible deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The market also reacted to a busy round of corporate earnings.
The S&P 500 fell 0.2%, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped similarly.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 331 points, or about 0.6%, mainly due to a 4% drop in Salesforce shares after the company announced a leadership change.
SanDisk shares slid 5% after its fiscal fourth-quarter results didn’t meet investors’ expectations.
