Monday saw a modest decline in U.S. stocks as investors awaited the release of key corporate earnings reports, following a solid week for the major averages.
Each of the Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 had a 0.1% decline. An additional 55 points, or 0.1%, were lost by the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
These actions follow Friday’s record highs for the S&P 500 and the 30-stock Dow, which solidified their sixth consecutive weekly gains. During the week, the Dow closed up 0.96%, while the S&P 500 ended up 0.85% higher. By 0.8%, the Nasdaq Composite increased.
If corporations are able to surpass expectations during this earnings season, which is expected to intensify this week, equities may be able to maintain those gains.
