Monday’s bumpy session saw a jump in tech stocks as President Donald Trump unexpectedly exempted the United States from tariffs.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 40,524.79. It gained 312.08 points, or 0.78%.
The S&P 500 increased by 0.79% and ended the day at 5,405.97, while the Nasdaq Composite closed at 16,831.48, up 0.64%.
During the tumultuous session, all three indexes briefly experienced negative trading activities.
Trump’s decision to exempt computers and smartphones, along with other gadgets and parts like semiconductors, from his new “reciprocal” tariffs was welcomed by investors.
