The S&P 500 has Risen for the Second Day in a Row, as Tech Stocks Climb

The S&P 500 rose slightly Wednesday as investors weighed their holdings after a strong first half of the year dominated by artificial intelligence investments.

The broad market index finished the day up 8.60 points, or 0.16%, at 5,477.90, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 15.64 points, or 0.04%, to 39,127.80.

Meanwhile, the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 87.5 points, or 0.49%, to 17,805.16. The Nasdaq is expected to rise 18.6% in the first half of the year due to a strong run by Nvidia.

Nvidia closed 0.25% higher after trading negative for much of the day. It was a minor move after Tuesday’s 7% increase.

The AI chipmaker’s $3.1 trillion market capitalization has come to dominate the cap-weighted S&P 500 Its 150% increase in 2024 has raised concerns that most other stocks are not participating in this year’s rise.
