The S&P 500 is Expected to Surpass 5,000 Once More, Rising for a Fifth Week Due to Positive Inflation News

Stock futures surged on Friday following the government’s announcement that December’s inflation rate was even lower than initially reported. The S&P 500 appeared set to make a significant breakthrough above the 5,000 level, having briefly crossed this historic milestone on Thursday.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed by 120 points, or 0.3%, with S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures also seeing gains of 0.3% and 0.4%, respectively. Over the course of the week, the S&P has risen by 0.8%, while the Dow and the Nasdaq Composite have posted gains of 0.2% and 1.1%, respectively.

All major stock market indices are on track for their fifth consecutive week of gains.
