The S&P 500 Records its Largest Loss Since December, and the Dow Drops More Than 600 Points as Trump Declares that Tariffs will Continue

The announcement of impending tariffs by President Donald Trump caused the S&P 500 to fall on Monday, continuing its February rout and turning red for the year.

The broad index experienced its worst day since December, plunging 1.76% to close at 5,849.72, and losing around 0.5% of its value so far this year.

The final Dow Jones Industrial Average was 43,191.24, down 649.67 points, or 1.48%. Nvidia’s more than 8% drop in value caused the Nasdaq Composite to crash 2.64% to settle at 18,350.19.
