The announcement of impending tariffs by President Donald Trump caused the S&P 500 to fall on Monday, continuing its February rout and turning red for the year.
The broad index experienced its worst day since December, plunging 1.76% to close at 5,849.72, and losing around 0.5% of its value so far this year.
The final Dow Jones Industrial Average was 43,191.24, down 649.67 points, or 1.48%. Nvidia’s more than 8% drop in value caused the Nasdaq Composite to crash 2.64% to settle at 18,350.19.
