The EU’s competition watchdog announced on Tuesday that it is looking into whether Alphabet, the parent company of Google, and artificial intelligence firm Anthropic caused less competition.
The two companies’ relationship may have resulted in a “relevant merger situation,” and the CMA is investigating whether or not this may “may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition” in the United Kingdom.
Before starting a formal investigation, the agency has requested feedback from interested parties.
The company will work with the CMA and “give them the complete picture about Google’s investment and our commercial collaboration.”
“Our company is autonomous, and our freedom to collaborate with others and maintain our corporate governance are unaffected by any of our investor or strategic partnership relationships,” the representative continued.
