Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will invest $100 billion to enhance chip manufacturing in the United States, President Donald Trump announced on Monday.
He described the investment as a “tremendous move by the most powerful company in the world.” With this new capital, TSMC’s total investment in the U.S. will amount to $165 billion, funding the construction of five new fabrication facilities in Arizona.
This announcement is significant for TSMC, a major supplier of semiconductors for companies like Nvidia and Apple, particularly for their artificial intelligence (AI) applications. The investment aligns with the Trump administration’s objective of establishing the U.S. as a leading hub for artificial intelligence.
Just last month, Trump unveiled a multibillion-dollar AI infrastructure initiative in collaboration with Oracle, DeepAI, and Softbank, further emphasizing the administration’s commitment to boosting the tech sector in the U.S. He reiterated the importance of restoring semiconductor production domestically, highlighting it as an issue of both economic strength and national security.
