After The Capitol Hill Event, Elon Musk Advocates For A Federal Department Of AI

After a Capitol Hill meeting with prominent industry leaders, activists, and researchers, Tesla CEO Elon Musk urged for the creation of a federal department of artificial intelligence in a conversation with reporters.

On Wednesday morning, Musk drove up to the Capitol in a black Tesla to address Congress and other industry leaders, including Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google. Musk maintained his prior assertion that unregulated artificial intelligence poses a grave risk to humans in his remarks on Wednesday.

Musk told reporters following the conference, “I think this gathering may go down in history as crucial to the advancement of civilisation.” The billionaire continued, “AI development is possibly dangerous for all people everywhere.”

There appeared to be a “solid consensus,” according to Musk, who was upbeat about the meeting. Musk added that those working in the field needed to be “proactive while reacting,” and that a federal department of artificial intelligence might function similarly to the Federal Aviation Administration or the Securities and Exchange Commission.
