Ahead of the Fed Policy Meeting, the Dow Declines 300 Points

As the Federal Reserve began a crucial two-day policy meeting, stocks declined on Tuesday.

273 points, or 0.7%, were taken off the Dow Jones Industrial Average. S&P 500 fell 0.3%, while the Nasdaq Composite experienced a 0.1% decline.

Approximately forty stocks out of the S&P 500 index are expected to gain during the day, while the majority of the stocks traded lower. Roughly 2,000 equities decreased and only 458 advanced at the New York Stock Exchange.

The Dow declined more than 1%, led by declines at JPMorgan Chase, Amgen, and American Express.

Apple was among the few profitable equities of the day. The Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell will hold a press conference after the Fed makes a decision on interest rate policy on Wednesday, capping the Fed meeting.
