Monday’s gains in US stocks came as Wall Street attempted to offset some of the sharp losses sustained the previous week. Trading increased by 260 points, or 0.7%, on the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
Both the Nasdaq Composite and the S&P 500 saw increases of 0.8% and almost 1% respectively. A 3.3% increase in Boeing shares set the pace for the Dow.
There were also more than 1% advancements at American Express and Caterpillar. At more than 1% growth, technology and communication services led the S&P 500.
Beginning this first trading week of September, a traditionally difficult month for stocks, the stock market saw significant losses. In its worst week since March 2023, the S&P 500 fell 4.3%.
