Experts Seeking Answers from Google’s Antitrust Verdict are Examining the 25-Year-Old Microsoft Case

The corporation at the centre of the most well-known tech antitrust case in American history—Microsoft—was mentioned by U.S. judge Amit Mehta in his verdict on Monday, stating that Google has maintained a monopoly in internet search.

In 1999, a federal judge found that Microsoft had unlawfully blocked competitor browsers, including Netscape Navigator, by using the Windows operating system’s market dominance.

The software behemoth was obliged to cease giving rivals an unfair advantage in its PC negotiations after a settlement in 2001.

In 2020, the government filed a major case against Google, alleging that the business maintained its market domination in search by erecting formidable obstacles to entry and establishing a feedback loop that reinforced its dominance.

The Sherman Act’s Section 2, which forbids monopolies, was determined to have been broken by Google.
