Meta announced plans to open source its most advanced AI models and introduce new ones tailored for consumer devices, aiming to compete with leading AI labs.
In an Instagram video, CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared that the company will make the weights of its latest AI model, Muse Spark 1.2, publicly available.
These weights contain the calculations and rules that determine how the AI functions and responds, allowing users to download and utilize the model freely.
Additionally, Meta is set to launch a new family of open-source models called Muse Glimmer, designed specifically to run on laptops.
Shares of Meta increased by 2.1% in premarket trading, although the stock has declined about 10% this year amid investor concerns over the company’s spending plans and its ability to compete in the AI space.
Zuckerberg aims to reassure investors that the Meta Superintelligence Labs, established last year, are making progress, and that the significant capital expenditure forecasted for this year will yield positive results.
