Recent criticism of Microsoft for failing to thwart a Chinese hack of its networks last summer has come from competing businesses as well as the US government.
In response, the internet giant is changing things by strengthening the link between cybersecurity and executive compensation. A government review panel labelled the Microsoft attack from last summer that was linked to China “preventable” in April.
A “cascade of errors” and a corporate culture at Microsoft “that deprioritized enterprise security investments and rigorous risk management” were mentioned by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Cyber Safety Review Board.
