Next Month, Amazon Employees in North Carolina will Vote on Unionisation

Next month, Amazon warehouse employees in a North Carolina location will cast their votes on whether to form a union, kicking off the company’s most recent labour dispute.

A Tuesday post on X by Carolina Amazonians United for Solidarity and Empowerment, the organisation working to organise personnel, stated that employees at the Garner, North Carolina, facility will vote between February 10 and February 15.

Requests for comment were not immediately answered by the National Labour Relations Board or Amazon representatives.

Known as CAUSE, the grassroots organisation, which is run by current and former workers, has spent the last three years trying to organise Amazon workers at the warehouse, which is situated in a suburb roughly ten miles south of Raleigh.

The RDU1 warehouse would be just the second Amazon location in the United States to unionise if the election is successful.

Due to difficulties negotiating a contract with Amazon, the Amazon Labour Union decided to connect with the Teamsters in June after workers at Amazon’s largest warehouse in New York City voted to join the organisation in 2022.
