Larry Ellison has had a year filled with success.
The co-founder of Oracle has amassed around $75 billion in paper riches after the software business he founded in 1979 experienced its largest stock surge since 1999 and the dot-com boom.
Oracle shares have soared 63% in 2024, while the S&P 500 index has gained 27%.
Ellison’s net worth has risen to nearly $217 billion, making him the second-richest person in the world, after Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
In the tech sector, Ellison is an elderly figure at 80, while his fellow billionaire entrepreneurs are often decades younger. He is half as old as Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, whose wealth has similarly skyrocketed to over $200 billion.
