As corporate earnings season began, stocks increased on Wednesday, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average was attempting to post gains for an eighth straight day.
The Dow closed 109 points, or 0.3%, higher. The Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 both increased by 0.3%.
