A new Kindle e-reader with a colour display was unveiled by Amazon on Wednesday. Every gadget since the retail behemoth’s 2007 launch of the Kindle has had a black-and-white screen.
Even when users enlarge photographs on the new Kindle, the display is engineered to prevent colours from becoming pixelated or washed out.
Amazon claims that the $279 tablet, which it is marketing as the Kindle Colorsoft, offers “weeks of battery life.” It ships on October 30 and is available for preorder right now.
Amazon also announced a 12th generation Kindle, which costs $109, an upgraded Kindle Paperwhite, which costs $159, and a redesigned $399 Kindle Scribe with new note-taking functions.
