Large and comfortable design over eye-catching computer visuals is what makes Meta’s Orion augmented reality glasses so excellent.
While using Orion this week at Meta’s annual Connect conference, CNBC senior media and tech correspondent Julia Boorstin was enthralled with the prototype’s small size in comparison to the numerous Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro virtual reality headsets.
The fact that these were so light struck Boorstin as particularly remarkable. The Orion glasses were unveiled by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Wednesday, who described them as ‘a glimpse into a future that I think is going to be quite fascinating’.
The thick-framed, black spectacles have a wireless “puck” that lets the device run apps such as holographic digital chess and pingpong games, which show up as digital visuals blended with the actual world.
