Microsoft stated in a threat analysis study on Thursday that more sophisticated Chinese state-aligned influence and misinformation campaigns are mimicking American voters and focusing on political candidates on multiple social media platforms.
The assessment, which concentrated on the rise in “digital threats from East Asia,” stated that “CCP-affiliated covert influence operations have now begun to successfully engage with target audiences on social media to a larger level than previously documented.”
According to a Microsoft analysis, certain Chinese influence efforts are already leveraging generative AI to produce visual material that has “already generated better levels of engagement from legitimate” consumers. The business said that this trend started around March.
In the past, Chinese influence campaigns have had difficulty connecting with their intended audiences, in this case, voters and citizens of the United States. But Microsoft cautioned that those tactics have improved after the 2022 midterm elections.
